Equestrian Aide Job Description
PROGRAMS A. Plan and implement
1. Daily activity – Assisting Equestrian Instructor with:(Including, but not exclusive to)
a. Riding instruction.
b. Animal care instruction.
c. Equipment care and use instruction.
d. Safety checks of equipment.
e. Checking physical soundness of horses.
f. Evaluating and classifying camper riding abilities.
g. Classifying horses as to suitability of riding level.
h. Inclement weather indoor activities.
i. Recognizing any contraindications per disability toward riding (i.e. Authorization given by guardian/parent and/or physician.)
j. Planning/ creating and participate in evening programs.
k. Weekend programs.
l. Planning/ creating camp weekend activities.

B. Apprise Equestrian Instructor and Program Assistants of:

1. Equestrian safety levels.
2. Equipment needs/wants.

C. Develop, integrate and maintain with Equestrian Instructor:

1. Programs and goals to meet camper’s individual needs.
2. Barn and corral area.
3. Resource materials, ideas, and notes on program advancement.

D. Other duties as assigned

CAMPER NEEDS A. Assist during:
1. Morning, Rest Hour and evening direct care, including lifting and transfers up to 70 pounds.
2. Mealtimes.
3. Emergencies as needed.
4. Other duties as assigned.

B. Forward information to Equestrian Instructor or Program Assistants concerning each camper’s progress.

TEAMWORK A. Orientation
1. Six day training session at the beginning of summer.
2. Orient staff to Equestrian program at beginning of the summer with Equestrian Instructor (2- 3 hrs.).
3. Attend staff in-services during summer.

B. Maintain positive working relations with each member of the staff and positive attitude throughout summer.

C. Keep Equestrian Instructor and Program Assistant informed of staff involvement in activities.

* Any horseback riding must be done in the presence of the Equestrian Instructor on the grounds of The Fowler Center for Outdoor Learning (exceptions must be approved in writing by the Equestrian Instructor and the Executive Director).
