Summer Health Officer/Camp Nurse Job Description
(When campers are here the salary is $850 per week plus Room and Board)

(During Staff Orientation, salary will be based on staff trainings aided/ facilitated by individual Health Officers.)

TWENTY-FOUR HOUR HEALTH CARE ADMINISTRATION (During regular camper sessions)

A. Responsible for supervision and administration of camper medication.

1. Welcome (meeting parents, learning med administration home techniques).
2. Update and/or complete individual’s Medication Administration Sheet to comply with physician’s orders (if parent/guardian orders they must sign a release).
3. Medication preparation- readying the first 24 hours of camp med passes as campers arrive.
4. Readying later med doses at least 2 doses in advance of administration.
5. Immediately documenting medication administration on each individual’s Medication Administration Sheet following each completed pass.
6. Aide Outpost in their readying of off-site adventure/camping trips (i.e. answer questions of concern).
7. Perform and document (i.e. Incident Report forms) first aid administration done by you.
8. Monitor (and correct if needed) and document (i.e. Nurse’s section of Incident Report forms) first aid administration by others.
9. Respond to issues concerning check-in and checkout screening (screening will be performed by Lead Counselor(s)).
10. Inform Assistant Camp Director or Program Assistant of any needs requiring off camp assistance before replying to or phoning parent/guardian or camper’s physician.
11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as you are qualified and as they arise.

B. Responsible for supervision and administration of staff medication

1. Update and/or complete individual’s Medication Administration Sheet to comply with physician’s orders (if personal orders they must sign a release).
2. Document medication administration on individual’s Medication Administration Sheet
3. Other comfort needs as they arise (i.e. Tylenol for headaches).
FIRST AID KIT (S)

1. Create a First Aid kit inventory essentials list, laminate copies for each kit.

2. Prepare Cabin, Barn and Garden, Horse, Waterfront and Sports and Rec. area kits prior to camper arrival in summer.

3. Prepare and inventory with Outpost Coordinator the Outpost First Aid kit.

4. Coordinate weekly (when necessary) restocking with Cabin Leads and program area leaders.

MAINTAIN MED ROOM and INFIRMARY ROOM APPEARANCE A. Plan and implement
1. Inventory items for stocking or restocking and present the list to the Assistant Camp Director.
2. Daily neatening of the Health Office rooms.
3. Weekly (or as needed) thorough cleaning/disinfecting of the medication cabin containers.
4. Bi-weekly (or as needed) thorough cleaning/disinfecting of the rooms (regardless of use).
TEAMWORK A. Orientation
1. Six days at the beginning of summer training session.
2. Orient to facility and participation/training expectations with Assistant Camp Director or Program Assistants.
3. Aide in trainings congruous to health issues (i.e. transferring campers).
4. Participate in team building activities.
5. Attend and participate in staff in-services during summer as requested.

B. Maintain positive attitude working relations with every member of the staff.

C. Notify Assistant Camp Director or Program Assistant of any concerns as they arise.
