Outdoors Education Instructor Job Description -- Minimum Requirements: Age 18 or higher
PROGRAMS A. Plan and implement
1. Daily activity including, but not exclusive to:
a. Nature study.
b. Nature arts and crafts.
c. Sensory stimulation.
d. Initiative and adventure games.
e. Ecology: education and responsibility.
f. Native American and early settler lore.
g. Building habitats.
h. Interpretive hikes.
i. Nature interaction and appreciation.
j. Inclement weather indoor activities
2. Overnight campouts (with assistance from the Barn and Garden Programmer.)
3. Assist with planning/ creating and participate in evening programs.
4. Help with special day and evening programs.
5. Help with campfires and cookouts.

B. Apprise Program Assistant of

1. Activity plans.
2. Campout success/difficulty (i.e. cabin group participation).
3. Equipment needs/wants.

C. Develop, integrate and maintain

1. New programs.
2. Program room (tools and materials).
3.Appropriate sites (i.e. rope, challenge, or obstacle courses as needed).

D. Other duties as assigned

CAMPER NEEDS A. Assist during:
1. Morning, Rest Hour and Evening direct care, including lifting and transfer up to 70 pounds.
2. Mealtimes.
3. Emergencies as needed.
4. Other duties as assigned.

B. Forward information to the Program Assistant concerning each camper’s progress.

TEAMWORK A. Orientation
1. Six day training session at the beginning of summer.
2. Orient staff to Outdoor Education program at beginning of the summer (1-2 hr.).
3. Attend and/or facilitate pertinent staff in-services.

B. Maintain positive attitude and working relations throughout summer.

C. Keep Program Assistants informed of staff involvement in activities.
