Outpost Counselor Job Description
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A. Age 18 or higher.
B. CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
C. Standard First Aid.
ACTIVITY LEADERSHIP A. Plan, implement with other outpost staff:
1. Daily program schedule.
2. Off-site adventure/camping trips.
3. Weekly menu and daily meals.
4. End of session camper awards.

B. Plan, assist and instruct outpost campers in: (including, but not limited to):

1. Individualized goals developed by campers and/or guardian(s).
2. Outdoor living skills.
3. Outdoor exploration.
4. Outdoor cooking.
5. Nature study.
6. Service projects.

C. Assist program instructors with involving and motivating outpost campers in: (as outpost schedule permits)

1. Daily activity periods.
2. Evening activities.
3. Special day and weekend activities

D. Other duties as assigned

DIRECT CAMPER CARE

A. Responsible for assistance of outpost campers in:
1. Welcome (meeting parents, nametags, etc.)
2. First aid concerns.
3. Morning and evening preparation, including lifting and transfers up to 70 pounds.
4. Mealtime assistance.
5. Hygiene (showers, teeth brushing, etc.).
6. Check-in and check-out screenings.
7. Topical medications.
8. Special needs as they arise.

B. Notify Outpost Coordinator of camper

1. Behavioral concerns and issues.
2. First aid concerns.
3. Hygiene needs.
4. Clothing and linen needs.
5. Individual and group progress.
6. Check-in and check-out screenings.
SUPERVISE OUTPOST CAMPERS IN MAINTAINING A. Camping Equipment
1. Tents-both permanent and collapsible.
2. Cooking supplies.
3. Cleaning supplies.
4. Other camping equipment.

B. Outpost area

1. Grounds.
2. Wildlife habitats.
3. Wash area
4. Port-a-johns

C. Notify Outpost Coordinator of any area physical concerns (pump, smoke alarms, inoperative equipment, etc.)

TEAMWORK A. Orientation
1. Six day training session at the beginning of summer.
2. Staff in-service during summer as needed.

B. Maintain positive working relations with every member of the staff.

C. Notify Outpost Coordinator of any concerns as they arise.

D. Maintain positive attitude throughout summer.
