Each program has been created to accommodate each person's needs. As you read further, you will find a program that meets the interests and needs of your camper. Outpost Adventures
The Outpost is a pioneer style camping program located on the grounds of the Fowler Center. Staffed with counselors who are experienced in living in the outdoors, this program offers campers an opportunity to live close to nature. The Outpost is in many ways a separate program from the rest of the sessions of camp at The Fowler Center. While still following the camp's mission to increase personal growth and independence, The Outpost program also strives to teach additional skills in outdoor living and in teamwork. Check-ins and check-outs occur at the same time as the rest of summer camp sessions.
Campers will take an active role in the group living environment as they work together with the staff to prepare meals, plan programs and out of camp trips and maintain their living space. Campers will live in platform tents and cook meals with staff on a more remote section of camp. Modern conveniences such as electricity and bathing facilities are available at base camp. The Outpost is a great experience for a camper who enjoys being outdoors and who is interested in the challenge of living in a primitive environment. The Fowler Center administration can help determine if an Outpost session is appropriate, and campers may only enroll in one Outpost session.
Activities may include: Trip Preparation, Outdoor Cooking, Campsite Management, Pontoon Boat Rides, Canoeing, Fishing, Swimming, Horseback Riding, Team Building and Outdoor Education.

Mah Meh Weh Horse Ranch
This program runs concurrently with Camp Fowler and is for girls without special needs. Taken from the Ojibwa (Chippewa) word for "together and collectively" the horse ranch program is an opportunity to have a great time learning new things. First and foremost is horseback riding. With an emphasis on English riding the participants learn basic skills, up to advanced riding. Opportunity for stable management is also available, as campers help with all aspects in the care of horses.
Additionally, participants at Mah Meh Weh meet, learn and play with children and teens with special needs. In a relaxed and supportive atmosphere the campers have an opportunity to gain understanding and respect for one another. The two-way exchange is highly beneficial to both groups. Mah Meh Weh campers stay in new inclusive cabins at property adjacent to base camp. These sessions are currently only for girls. Two one-week sessions are offered the last two weeks of camp, depending on enrollment. Check-ins and check-outs occur at the same time as the rest of summer camp sessions.

Registration & Additional Information
Registration Information
  1. Select a session that suits your age group, abilities and interests. Adult campers who would like extra assistance with eating, dressing and hygiene and those who would benefit from longer activities are suited for the Super Camp session only.

  2. Obtain a registration form by emailing us at: info@thefowlercenter.org or by contacting us via telephone at: (989) 673-2050, or by mail at 2315 Harmon Lake Road, Mayville MI 48744. Each camper must have their own form.

  3. Please call for availability as some of our sessions fill up quickly. Return the registration form along with a 25% deposit. The remaining 75% is due 4 weeks prior to the start of your session.

  4. After receiving the registration form, The Fowler Center will send you a camper packet, which includes a participant profile.

*Please Note: First year Camp Fowler campers must return the participant profile 30 days prior to the start of the camp session, otherwise the spot will unfortunately be forfeited and deposit returned. This ensures the safety and well being of all participants.

The entire packet must be returned 3 weeks prior to the first day of the session. Thank you for your cooperation. A complete list of what to bring will be included in the camper packet after registration. Cancellations must occur 3 weeks prior to the session. The amount of the deposit will be refunded minus a $35 dollar administration fee. No refund can be made after the 3-week deadline or if a camper fails to arrive, voluntarily withdraws or is removed from camp during a session.

Financial Aid

Many foundations, service clubs, churches and individuals generously provide support in the form of donations designated to help offset the cost of tuition for those that need it. While currently no full scholarships are awarded by the Fowler Center, many campers are helped with partial aid. To apply for financial aid simply mark the amount requested and reason for request on your registration form. Check also with local service groups and CMH agencies.

Insurance

All participants are asked to bring copies of current Medicaid, Medicare or the family's/camper's current insurance cards. We can make a photocopy and return the original to you. All campers must have an insurance card.
