Respite and Changeover Counselor/Instructor Job Description

DIRECT CAMPER CARE:
|
A. Responsible for camper
- 1. Welcome (meeting parents, moving in, etc.)
2. Morning and evening preparation (dressing, making beds, etc.), including lifting up to 70 pounds.
3. Mealtime assistance.
4. Hygiene as needed (showers, teeth brushing, etc.)
5. Topical medications.
6. Special needs as they arise.
B. Notify on-site supervisor of camper
- 1. Behavioral concerns and issues.
2. First-aid concerns.
3. Clothing needs.
4. Laundry and linen needs.
5. Individual progress.
6. General health.
7. Other comfort needs as they arise.

ACTIVITY LEADERSHIP
|
A. Implement and involve every camper in
- 1. Individualized goals developed with camper, caregivers, and staff.
2. Free time activities (in cabin or otherwise).
B. Lead pre-planned activity periods as requested each session.
C. Assist other instructors with involving and motivating campers in
- 1. Daily activity periods.
- 2. Evening activities.

| SUPERVISE, MAINTAIN AND KEEP LIVABLE |
A. Cabin Environment.
B. Outside area surrounding cabin.
C. Notify on-site supervisor of any camp physical concerns (i.e. plumbing, etc.).

| TEAMWORK |
A. Orientation
- Staff in-service consisting of one weekend of “shadowing”
an experienced Counselor/Instructor.
B. Maintain positive working relations with every member of the staff.
C. Notify on-site supervisor of any concerns as they arise.
D. Maintain positive attitude throughout the weekend.
E. Complete paperwork (after orientation) as assigned by on-site supervisor
- (i.e. Incident Reports, Camper Appraisals, Topical Meds… etc.)
F. Other duties as assigned as experience allows (i.e. orientating new staff… etc.)
G. Have fun with the campers!!!
